Maybe they see it on TV. Every family man on TV these days is a total idiot: "Everybody Loves Raymond," "King of Queens," "Yes Dear," "Whe World According to Jim," etc. ad nauseum. When was the last time a male TV character, especially a husband and father, had half a brain? The wife is always smarter on TV.

Because we usually are. I'm not talking so much about book sense... but women usually figure out things easier than men, especially the really simple stuff that any two-tear-old can figure out. I don't even think it has to do with intelligence... just it's that sometimes men will overlook the simple and it makes him seem dumb.

because we were given the responsibility to carry unborn children and deliver them unto the world. If men were smarter than women, don't you think you would have been given that responsibility?

No I am a woman I don't think that I am smarter than all men. I am just smarter than some of the men. ;)

well why - don't you find that you are smarter than at least some women?

Being a feminist is not the same as thinking that women are smarter than men, I don't think.

well, some women ARE smarter than some men.
Nobody can say they're smarter than everyone else and be correct at that (unless they're Stephen Hawking :)

I don't think one gender is necessarily smarter than the other, but both have their strengths and weaknesses, just like each individual person has his or her own strengths and weaknesses.

I know a lot about law and legal procedure, and my boyfriend does not. My boyfriend knows a lot about computer systems, and I do not. Does this make me smarter than my boyfriend? No. Does this make my boyfriend smarter than me? No. Maybe in those particular areas, but not overall.

In social and relationship issues, women tend to make the rules, so they would naturally know their way around them better. They think they're smarter in these issues, because they are; they know the system and can game it.

In mechanical / engineering trades, men tend to design the systems, so men know their way around these systems better.

In computer engineering, of course, it tends to be a mixture of both. Did you know that many of the first programmers were women? This made men tend to think that computers were inherently female:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;

3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for possible later retrieval;

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

However, when networked computers became prevalent, most women thought of these systems as inherently female:

1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;

2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;

3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem;

4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

Well, standpoint theory would suggest that, because women are in a position of relative subordination to men (which they are, true parity not having been reached) they actually HAVE to know more in order to be able to leverage something approaching equitable power for themselves in a society that privileges men. Men in a society that privileges the masculine, don't have to be as 'smart', because they already have a leg up.

Same goes for minority and class groups that are in a relatively subordinated position... workers, for instance, have to have a better understanding of the system than their bosses in order to be able to function with any amount of autonomy. The writers of 'The Office' know this; that's why the show is funny.

I don't think women as a group are smarter than men. Even generalizations about the abilities men and women have (verbal vs. mathematical) are largely bullshit. If you really read the studies, the differences between genders are pretty small when it comes to ability. People like to talk a lot about women/men are better at this or that, but in reality there is more individual difference than gender difference, people just like stereotypes.

But right now more women than men are graduating college and more women than men are getting advances degrees. I think men of this generation (18-30) are a lot less focused on achievement than their female counterparts and a lot of them revel in slackerdom. So even if they are dumb, they seem dumb.

I don't think that, I think that a person can be 'smart' in many ways...it's just a matter of finding out what that is...:D

Feminists don't, they just assert women's rights, not think they are better. Some women are better though because men will do anything for sex and women manipulate that-we don't want to but it's their weakness and our gain

why do men think they arent as smart as women. Some women and men think the same about each other. Too much research studies and wives tales. Don't listen to Ron Burgundy. he is right only half the time..

I don't think I am smarter than men in general, but I don't think I am less smart than men in general either. Intelligence has nothing to do with gender - but everything to do with the individual and that person's upbringing, education, genes, etc. All women are not the same and all men are not the same.

See below - applies to both sexes: Because they are.

I know a lot of men smarter than me.In my home it just happened that I am the smart one and save ou family from lots of financial desasters. But I think gender does not cause one person's brain work better than the other one.
