A Guy Critical (Male, 22-25) asked:

While I was driving last night and turned the corner I accidentally hit this kid on his bike. I didn't realize that he was crossing the street. I just clipped his wheel and he fell off. I didn't run him over. I drove off really quick. And my car was alright, not even a scratch thank god!

I don't live in the neighborhood so it very unlikely that they will find my car. but, what kind of charge could I have gotten for hitting him?

Are you out of your mind?????????????YOur CAR was alright? What about the kid?...sometimes appearance are deceiving...maybe he was NOT alright. You should go try to make amends and buy him a new bike...be sure he is ok, for God's sakes!!! Accidents happen, but you make it right! The charge would be hit and run. Fess up, and be a man about it.

It is illegal to leave the scene of an accident that you caused when there may be injury. That would be the only charge in this case. I don't know why you didn't stop. Accidents happen.

If your story is true!!
then you have one "big
problem" Your conscience!
You could tell us what you
did, but your the one that
left the kid. Your also
worried about "your car",
your kidding me right!
Try and find out if that
child, was seriously injured,
that's what you should be doing.
Maybe this will be the lesson,
you needed, to stop drinking &
driving, because no one sober,
would of reacted in this manner.

You have got to be kidding... "not even a scratch thank god." What about the child you hit? Did it occur to you that he might have a scratch, a concussion or a broken bone? I would imagine the fear of being "clipped" was harsh enough without you driving off to "freedom"!
As for you being charged there would have been many factors that the police might view and it is hard to say if you would be charged with any wrongdoing. Driving off and not being responsible with the accident could prove to be the worst decision made. Never say never with regard to the authorities finding you. Your conscious knows where you are right now.

How do you think this poor kid feels now that you have ruined his sense of security in the world? What about the concussion that he could have gotten, or the broken leg? You should have been a real man and tried to fix the problems that you caused.

so I take it that you drove off.
and since you didn't mention that you got off your lazy ass to check if the boy was safe or not, I'm also assuming that you're pretty ignorant and cold hearted.
Sounds like you're more worried about yourself and the possible charges that you may have faced, than the boy who may have been injured.

You sound like a big inconsiderate jerk to me :)

I suppose you 'have no child or children'.......cause if you do, then you really are a selfish bastard not to think that what you did could have been someone else doing it to your child and taking off and running away without trying to see what kind of 'damage control' you could have done.

You're supposed to be starting to be a 'responsible young adult' since you are in the 22 - 25 age bracket.......but you are not doing a good job of it.

Lets hope that KARMA does not bite your ass if and when you do have a child and something happens to your child!

So you tell me that you hit a child on his bike, he fell off and you ran like a coward? How do you know that nobody got your license number, description of your car or took a picture? Everybody seems to have a camera phone nowadays.

As for the charge, you would have been charged with a "hit and run" felony. If you were found negligent, you may have been liable for any medical expenses, as well as face a criminal charge of "endangerment".

I know some people have little regard for their fellow man, but what if something like this were to happen to your relative or friend? What would you tell them? People like you sickens me.

Hit and Run and failing to stop and render aid >> these are criminal offenses -- and someone saw it

You have 2 choices:
call an attorney and turn yourself in
sit and wait for them to come get you

A Mr. Nice Guy (Male, New York, 26-28, Consulting) answered:

felony with short term jail time if someone registered your plate, or even a car description with a partial plate. aggravated assault with a deadly weapon if he was hurt and you drove off. if they wanted to throw the book at you the could. it all depends on the jurisdiction of where the incident occurred and local and state laws. In NY where I'm a state trooper, thats about the minimum you would receive. Alternately, you could send me your plate number and I could run the numbers and save you the trouble.

A Thinker (Female, 46-55) answered:

Leaving the scene of an accident.

And there is some serious jail time available for such a crime. You should not be driving. You should be ashamed of yourself. I hope karma does not come back too soon to kick your butt, and when it does I hope it is you it gets and not a child of yours who gets hit and the driver leaves him laying along the side of the road.

Stellar actions...

i would have to ask my brother who is a policeman.
at this point, you would be charge for hit and run.
i understand, fear set in' but at the same time, you hit a bike with someone child riding on it.
because you kept going because of fear, you don't know if or not this child were harm or not.
please don't think that, i'm trying to make you fell bad!
i'm speaking from exprience.
may year ago this child ran cross in front of me with his bike
my car clipped the back tire of his bike, causing him to fall, also causing harm to his arm.
to this very day, i thank God!! i got out of my car to help him.
if not! i don't think i could have live with myself.
some time, things is not what they seen to be.
nothing like having a clear consience.

You have obviously never been hit by a car.

I am still cursing the bitch who hit me (while I was in a crosswalk with the walk sign) and kept on going.

You realize that when this happens to one of your loved ones (perhaps a girlfriend or one of your future children, or maybe just your dog), you will have forfeited the right to be angry at the driver, and be the 'victim'.
