A Thinker (Female, Miami, 26-28, Self-Employed) asked:

Did anyone else hear about the woman who tricked her daughters ex friend by pretending to be a boy on myspace that liked her? This woman pretended to be an interested boy, and then started putting the girl down and calling her ugly and saying that she wasn't worth crap. The girl ended up hanging herself in her closet.
Now the woman is possibly facing 20 years.
What do you think about the situation?

I think she deseves what punishment is given, she is the adult here and she pushed this poor girl over the edge. You reap what you sow.

The grown woman actually told her, posing as the boy, "the world would be better off without you"
The girl, Megan, hung herself within an hour.
That woman should be brought up on manslaughter charges.

I think that's a bunch of BS. It's not fair the lady is gonna get 20 years because of something she didn't do...the girl hung herself the lady didn't do that to her.If the girl didn't like what the lady was telling her she could just have blocked her and not talked to her again but I'm guessing she kept on talking to her and look where she ended up.

I posted about this yesterday. What grown woman (and a mother no less) would torment an obviously mentally ill child of 13?

I think that mother was really pathetic, playing on the poor girl's emotions. I think she had too much time on her hands to pull something so cruel and sick.

I think that woman is an immature, hateful, pathetic excuse for a mother and they should throw the book at her. What grown woman would stoop to torturing a kid?

Well I think it's horrible and if there's any kind of charge for verbal assault and harassment she should be charged with that but I also have to say that you can't charge someone for another's suicide. Suicide is a personal decision, no one MADE her kill herself. I'm sure she already had a lot of emotional problems and this was a trigger. Don't get me wrong, I think this woman is horrible, but I also don't believe that you can seriously put someone in prison for another person committing suicide. As horrible of a person as this woman is, she's not a murderer, she's just a bitch.

Yeah, the woman was in her forties, and the girl was 13. Nothing like terrorizing someone at an age when they are most vulnerable. I can't imagine that mom's pain. The woman should have a great time in prison. I'm sure the other moms in there dying to see their kids will love her.

I think this woman deserves to get 20 yrs. She's in her 40's and very immature. That poor mother, my heart goes out to her. I kind of have mixed feelings about blaming Myspace, though.

Hold on a minute. I have not heard or read the story in the news, but...

Why is a 13-year-old girl in her own world on the computer, or anywhere in life, without her parents? What about "her" parents? It was her parents' job to guide her in life. It was their job to care for her self-worth and emotional needs. It was their job to know who her friends were. It was their job to not let her wander into the world, including the internet, including "myspace," to keep her innocent and pure. It was their job to protect her from all forms of evil. It was their job to create a home environment where their daughter could come to them for love, support, advice, and meaning in life. Apparently she did not have a loving, trusting relationship with her parents. She did not seek their help. She hid a computer "relationship" from them and took her life by her own hands. Sad.

But why are so many people on here spending so much energy thinking all the evil to do against this other mom when we should be taking care of our own children.

Come on! A girl in love with a pretend boy on a computer? The real issue is neglect on the part of the dead girl's parents.

Everything about this "case" is bizarre. But then, things in this current world are very ill and not right in general.

In a better version of reality, a little girl with emotional problems would be surrounded by her loving family who would place her need to feel loved and a part of life as their first priority, and that would eliminate such things as dependence upon an artificial system like MySpace.

This woman who perpetrated the deliberate manipulation of the girl is obviously very sick emotionally and mentally herself. We are all disturbed and angered that she would do such a thing---and we need to ask How could such a thing come about?

I am sensing and seeing something about these two---the young girl and the older woman---that they are almost like two reflections of the same being----attracted to one another through a mutual lack of esteem, each in their own way. It is a very degraded, low energy.

It is indeed "sickness". It is the sickness of the Human Spirit, degraded, corrupted.

Where were the parents of the young girl in this scenerio? Are they not responsible for their own child's welfare, including monitoring such things as the computer?

Yes, I remember reading about it and I hope she gets the 20 years. You don't mess with people feelings, most especially a young girl or boy.

The cruelty and callousness of the mother in question is shocking to the conscience of any reasonable person. However as cold as her actions were, they should not be prosecutable. The girl who hanged herself was obviously unstable. Just as no one should be held accountable for the gross over reactions of psychotics or schizophrenics. The mother in question, as execrable as she is, should not be liable for prosection for the actions of the unstable girl.

Yeah! What a crazy story! The jury is still out because there appears to be more to the story than meets the eye. Presumably, the motive was that the girl and the woman's daughter stopped being friends. Also, another young woman was in on the prank. Clearly, the dead girl had some real problems...

It is hard to believe that a mature woman, a mother, would resort to such childish and ridiculous hateful games! But, is this woman really guilty of causing someone to take their own life? We shall see...

I think the woman is lucky that the girls parents didn't decide to take things into their own hands.

I know that if it were my daughter, I wouldn't want to leave it up to the courts to decide the woman's punishment (or lack thereof).

The bitch deserves to be sent to those countries which 'cane' people (like a whole lot of other folks here in the U.S.), so that she can have permanent physical and mental scars to live with and think about for the next 20 plus years in prison - preferably in another country where they don't have the perks that prisoners here in the U.S. have.

Dr Phil actually had this story on his show a couple of months ago and I was apalled at the things that happened to this poor girl named Megan...I think the mother should have been put in jail and left there to rot in hell for going so far as to cause a child to take her own life...20 years is not enough time for her to do because doing 20 years will not ever take away the trauma the parents have to live with in knowing their child died because the cruelty of someone who is a mother...it is the worst possible thing that an adult can do to a child and is possibly the worst case of bullying I've ever heard of...it's just so disgusting that this mother could think that harrassing this poor girl would go unnoticed or wouldn't affect her...
