I believe in my 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. I have a gun, I have a permit. I'd hate like hell to ever have to use it but I would if pushed. I'm for it. However... I am also for locking up your firearms and your ammunition as well and out of reach of children. I'm also for TEACHING that child that a gun IS NOT a toy and to not meddle. Therefore, I also believe in discipline.

I have guns in my home. I think that they should be locked up and everyone should be at least taught how to use them properly.
I am torn on keeping them in the house with children around. Will cross that bridge when I come to it.

I grew up in a hunting family. Even did my share of shooting. But, while married for 27 years I would not allow guns in our house, for good reason. My bipolar hubby was NOT to be trusted. Now that I'm out of that nightmare, my adult sons do keep guns in my home again.

yes to guns in the house, and you have to keep one in each room. Hey...you just never know. You could be scratching your ass making a ham sandwich, when an intuder bursts in on you...yup gotta have one in the kitchen.

I have rifles, and pistols, in my home. While they are kept safe from my son, or others that don't have the training to use them, I can readily arm myself if someone breaks into my home. I pitty the bastard that tries to break in--I've qualifed as an expert with all of the firearms I own. :)

Sure, some say we don't need to fend for our country on our own like they did back when that was written, but is that REALLY so??? Think about it...

I have my state's version of a firearm owner's ID, but I own no guns. Don't need to, don't want to. But I very STRONGLY believe that my decision is just that: MY decision. If I should ever feel the need to own a gun, I believe I have a right to buy and have one. And I thank God and our forefathers, for that very right...

In general, I do not like guns, can not shoot one and do not feel the least comfortable handling one. Guns do not kill people, people kill people...
As for other people, if they KNOW how to operate and/or carry a gun more power to them. I do believe gun owners need to take the necessary precautions when children are present in their homes. Forgetting to put away a gun into a locked safe/container is unacceptable.
We do not own a gun now, but the one we had I turned it into the police department for them to do with it as they wished. I did not want to take the chance with it being in our home once I had children.

I personally own several firearms and I keep them in my home.
Even when my kids were growing up they were in my home locked in
a gun safe. I'm with Charles Heston, may he rest in peace, "you can have my gun when you can pry it from my cold dead hands."

The only guns in my home are water guns.

I do not want a gun in my home. I have a 6 year old. In general, I think that in the right hands, they are a last-resort self defense weapon. In the wrong hands, they have no right to be there.

I have guns. I love guns. My guns mind much better than my dogs do, they stay exactly where I leave them. They do not sneak out to bite someone when I am not looking. My kids grew up with the guns in the house in plain sight. No problem because I taught my kids about guns at a very early age. That's where most of the idiots go wrong. NO EDUCATION for the owners of the guns & their families.

I think their is nothing wrong with guns. Whats wrong are the gang members etc that have the guns and use them for the WAY wrong reason. My husband and i both want one, and we both feel nothing is wrong with that. I grew up around guns, my father taught me how to shoot and to shoot good! They are fun, safe and not the enemy if you are taught correctly, and USE them the correct way. Stronger consequence for those who miss use them are needed not for guns to be outright banned.

Guns in the home of 'responsible' people - not ding bats....who mostly have them.

Also, anyone who has children under age should know better not to have them located where they can be found and taken out and played with or taken to school to shoot somebody who angered them.

I grew up with guns in the home and I knew where they were kept but I was enough sense not to mess with them. My adoptive father took me for target practice and I was (still am I hope) a good shot.

But too many people let a 'gun' talk for them these days and that is just stupidly ignorant.

Well, I'm British and honestly I've never seen a gun in my life, except obviously on TV and such. I don't think that's a bad thing, we do have a horrific gun problem in England at the moment but I also know that they're not easy to get hold of or to get away with owning and it's nothing compared to the kinda thing you get in America. Honestly can't see why Americans think it's so important to have guns, we're fine over here without them!

Given that it's incredibly more likely that the gun will be used against you or for suicide or with an accidental death, I think it's a horrible idea to have guns in the home. I used to know people who kept them in their dresser which is quite common by the way. I don't let my kids play in houses where the people own guns.

Its our right to have guns in the home. If I person doesn't like them then they have the right not to own one. The people who break into their homes will probably have one though.

I have guns in my house and one in my car. Its better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I do not have children though. If I did I would definatly use the proper caution and common sense.

But I don't think guns are bad or dangerous.

I believe in the right to bare arms. We have 4 guns here at home, but they are locked up in a case, that requires a key to open. And it is in our closet where the children don't even go. I think it is a part of our survival, I would hate to use it, but I definitely feel better knowing I am able to protect my family. Who knows what is going to happen in the future...

Guns are not the problem, it is it irresponisble people who own them that causes problems to develope. I do not remember a time when my father and brothers did not have a safe full of guns... or a time when there was a firing pin left in any of the guns when they were not being used. Irresponsiblity on the part of the owner does not make a gun evil, it just makes the owner an irresponsible, lame idiot.

I believe the statistic goes something like this:

When a gun is used in the home by a a legitimate gun owner 90% of the time it is used against a friend or family member.

I have a handgun and a concealed weapons permit. I'm retired military and so is my husband and we both have several Marksmanship medals.
We have two girls at home. The one who's nearly 18, has taken a gun course but she doesn't know where the gun is hidden. The younger one, could never find or reach it.
I grew-up in rural Oklahoma and we always had guns in the house. When you live in the country, you can call 911...but nobody's coming or if they do, it's gonna be an hour or more before they find you.
Some good news: The Denver Post (we now live near Denver) had an article a couple of weeks ago that said gun ownership/concealed weapons permit apps. are at an all-time high but child/gun accidents are at an all-time low and those accidents reflect ALL child/gun accidents including those of kids harmed/killed in OTHER peoples' homes and those guns that were obtained illegaly.

Yes, to responsible owners. I own a gun. My son has a gun. My father has guns and my grandfathers had guns.
I say no for hunters that say they shoot by sound and other idiots and mentally deranged people.
I don't really care for handguns as much because they are specifically made for killing people, but if responsible gun owners wish to have them, it's their choice.

I remember reading that there was a police strike in somewhere in Texas and robberies actually went down as a lot of Texans have firearms and were ready to use them.

If someone broke into my home, I would automatically assume they were there to hurt us and I would do what I had to, to protect myself and my family.

From the time I was old enough to remember, there were guns in the house. But instead of my parents saying "don't ever touch that, stay away". They taught me about guns and gun safety. When people don't educate their kids about guns then they're curious and that's when trouble happens. If you have guns in your house, teach everyone in your house about them.
